Is it normal to be jealous of a baby?
Yes, it can be normal to feel jealous of a baby, especially when the baby is getting attention or changing your place in the family. The feeling doesn’t make you a bad person; what matters is treating the baby kindly and figuring out what you need, too.
Babies can soak up a lot of attention, and it’s easy to feel overlooked or pushed aside—whether the baby is a new sibling, a relative’s child, or your partner’s baby. Jealousy is a feeling, not a verdict on your character, and plenty of people have it even if they feel awkward admitting it.
Try to name what’s underneath it: maybe you miss one-on-one time, feel insecure about your relationship, or are adjusting to a big change. You can ask for reassurance or dedicated time without blaming the baby. The baby isn’t choosing to take anything from you; they’re just being a baby.
