Is it normal to be scared of your boss?

Depends.It depends

It’s common to feel nervous around your boss, especially if they’re demanding or you’re worried about making mistakes. If you feel afraid all the time because they intimidate, threaten, or humiliate you, that’s not something you should have to just accept.

A little boss-related nerves are pretty normal: they have power over your work, and feedback or high-stakes conversations can feel intimidating. Some people are naturally more anxious around authority figures, too.

But there’s a difference between feeling nervous before a meeting and being scared to ask questions, make an ordinary mistake, or go to work. If your boss regularly yells, threatens, humiliates, or retaliates against you, the problem may be the way you’re being treated—not that you’re overreacting. It can help to talk it through with someone you trust and consider what support or options you have at work.
