Is it normal to dislike being around people?
Yes, it can be normal to prefer your own company or find being around people draining. It’s worth paying attention if the dislike feels new, comes with intense fear or distress, or keeps you from doing things you want to do.
Some people genuinely enjoy lots of alone time, and even people who like company can find socializing tiring or irritating sometimes. You don’t have to be a people person to be perfectly okay.
The useful distinction is whether you’re content with your amount of contact. If you want connection but feel unable to get it, or being around people suddenly feels unbearable, there may be something underneath the feeling worth exploring. Otherwise, having a small social battery—or simply preferring your own company—is a valid way to be.
