Is it normal to fart every few minutes?
Farting every few minutes can happen, especially after certain foods or fizzy drinks, but it’s more frequent than many people experience. If it’s a new change or comes with other symptoms, it’s worth checking in with a healthcare professional.
Gas builds up as you digest food and swallow air, and some foods—like beans, onions, dairy for people who don’t tolerate it well, and fizzy drinks—can make you fart more. Eating quickly or chewing gum can add to it, too. A temporary gassy spell is usually just your gut being chatty.
Every few minutes is on the frequent side, but frequency varies a lot from person to person and day to day. If it’s been your usual pattern and you otherwise feel fine, it’s generally not a big deal. If it’s a sudden change, keeps bothering you, or comes with ongoing pain, diarrhea, constipation, or weight loss, get it checked.
