Is it normal to fart more as you get older?
Mostly.Normal for most people
It can be normal to fart more as you get older, though it doesn’t happen to everyone. Changes in digestion, diet, medications, or food sensitivities can all add to the gas.
Your gut can change with age, and things like slower digestion or constipation may mean more gas. Diet changes, eating quickly, certain medications, and becoming less able to digest foods like dairy can also play a part—aging itself isn’t a guaranteed fart upgrade.
If it’s a gradual change and you otherwise feel fine, it’s usually nothing to worry about. If the increase is sudden or comes with ongoing pain, weight loss, blood in your stool, or persistent diarrhea, get it checked out.
