Is it normal to fight a lot in the first year of marriage?
Some couples argue more while adjusting to married life, so frequent disagreements in the first year aren’t automatically a bad sign. What matters is whether you can work things out respectfully and feel safe with each other.
The first year can bring a lot of small negotiations about money, chores, family, routines, and expectations. Lots of couples have more friction as they learn how to share a life; there isn’t one “normal” number of fights.
Pay attention to the pattern, not just the frequency. Disagreements that end in listening, repair, and compromise are different from insults, threats, control, or feeling afraid to speak up. If arguments keep escalating or leave you feeling unsafe, consider reaching out to someone you trust or a couples counselor.
