Is it normal to hate intimacy?

Depends.It depends

It can be normal not to enjoy intimacy, or to want much less of it than other people do. What matters is whether that feels right to you or is causing distress you’d like help with.

People mean different things by “intimacy”: sex, cuddling, emotional vulnerability, or simply having someone in their personal space. You might dislike one kind and be comfortable with another—or not want much intimacy at all. Stress, trust, past experiences, and personal preference can all shape how closeness feels.

You don’t have to force yourself to be intimate to prove you care about someone. If you’re in a relationship, being clear about what you do and don’t want can help; people’s preferences are mixed, and compatibility matters.

If this is a sudden change, or you hate intimacy but wish you didn’t, it may help to gently explore what’s behind that feeling with someone you trust or a therapist.
