Is it normal to increase rent every year?
Mostly.Normal for most people
Yes, yearly rent increases are common, especially when a lease renews. But they’re not automatic: your lease and local laws determine whether and how much your landlord can raise it.
It’s common for landlords to raise rent when a fixed-term lease ends or comes up for renewal, often to keep up with costs or market rates. That doesn’t mean every landlord does it, or that any increase is fair game.
Check your lease and local rules: rent-control laws may limit increases, and landlords usually have to give proper notice. In many places, they can’t raise the rent in the middle of a fixed-term lease unless the agreement allows it.
