Is it normal to like real gore?
Being fascinated by real gore doesn’t automatically mean there’s anything wrong with you or that you want to hurt anyone. It’s worth paying attention if it feels compulsive, leaves you distressed, or connects to urges to harm someone.
People can be drawn to graphic images for lots of reasons: shock, curiosity, the feeling of testing their limits, or simply because intense things grab attention. Some people enjoy horror but find real gore upsetting; others are more fascinated by the real thing. There isn’t one standard reaction.
The important distinction is between being interested in what you see and wanting real people to suffer. If you’re seeking it out more than you want to, feeling numb or upset afterward, or having urges to hurt someone, talk it through with someone you trust or a mental health professional. Otherwise, liking disturbing material by itself doesn’t define you.
