Is it normal to not fart?
Unusual.Less common, but harmless
It’s unusual to never pass gas, but lots of people fart less often than they realize or do it quietly, including while asleep. If you suddenly can’t pass gas and have pain, swelling, or vomiting, get medical care.
Your digestive system makes gas, so most people pass it now and then—even if it’s quiet, happens in your sleep, or you simply don’t notice. How often varies, and eating habits can make a difference, too.
If you mean you rarely notice yourself farting and feel fine, that’s usually nothing to worry about. But if you suddenly can’t pass gas and your belly is painful or swollen, or you’re vomiting, get medical care promptly.
