Is it normal to regret starting a new job?
Yes, it’s normal to have second thoughts after starting a new job. The change can feel uncomfortable at first, though persistent regret may be a sign the role isn’t the right fit.
A new job can bring a lot of uncertainty: unfamiliar people, routines, expectations, and the nagging thought that you made the wrong call. Even a job you were excited about can feel rough while you’re still finding your feet, so early regret doesn’t automatically mean you should quit.
Give yourself a little time to settle in, while paying attention to what’s driving the feeling. If it’s mostly nerves or being new, that may ease; if the work, conditions, or culture are consistently worse than you expected, it’s reasonable to reassess. You don’t have to love the job immediately—or convince yourself to stay forever.
