Is it normal to resent your partner?
It’s normal to feel resentment toward your partner sometimes, especially when you feel unheard or like things are unfair. If it keeps building or is changing how you treat each other, it’s a sign that something needs attention.
Resentment can show up in even loving relationships. It often grows from repeated little hurts, an uneven share of responsibilities, or needs and frustrations that haven’t been talked through. Having the feeling doesn’t make you a bad partner, and plenty of people experience it now and then.
What matters is whether it’s a passing signal or the relationship’s usual climate. Try naming what’s underneath it—like feeling taken for granted—and bringing up a specific change you’d like, rather than letting it come out as jabs or keeping score. If conversations keep going nowhere, couples counseling is one option; if you feel afraid or controlled, prioritize your safety and reach out to someone you trust.
