Is it normal to smell bad during your period?
Mostly.Normal for most people
A mild change in odor during your period is common, thanks to menstrual blood mixing with normal vaginal fluids and sweat. A strong, fishy or foul smell that sticks around is worth getting checked.
Your period can have a mild metallic or musky smell, and you might notice more body odor from sweat, too. That’s common and doesn’t mean you’re unclean; changing pads or tampons regularly and washing the outside of your vulva with water is enough. Avoid douching or scented products, which can irritate things.
If the smell is strong and fishy or foul, especially if it continues after your period or comes with itching, pain, or unusual discharge, check in with a healthcare professional. It may be something that needs treatment.
