Is it normal to struggle with empathy?

Mostly.Normal for most people

Yes, it’s normal to struggle with empathy sometimes, and people differ in how easily they understand or feel what others are going through. It doesn’t automatically mean you’re uncaring; how you treat people matters too.

Empathy isn’t one single thing: you might have trouble imagining someone else’s perspective, or you might understand their feelings without emotionally sharing them. Stress, exhaustion, conflict, and simply not relating to someone’s situation can all make empathy harder in the moment. Lots of people find it comes and goes.

You can still be considerate even when you don’t naturally feel what someone else feels. Listening, asking what would help, and respecting their experience count for a lot. If this is causing repeated problems in your relationships or bothering you, it may be worth talking it through with someone you trust or a therapist.
