Is it normal to be annoyed by your dog postpartum?
Yes. It’s common to feel more irritated by your dog postpartum when you’re exhausted, touched-out, or adjusting to a huge change—even if you still love your dog.
A new baby can leave you with very little sleep, privacy, or patience, and a dog’s barking, neediness, or getting underfoot may suddenly feel like one more thing to manage. That doesn’t make you a bad pet owner or mean you love your dog any less.
If you can, make things easier for a while: ask someone else to handle walks or feeding, and give your dog a comfortable spot away from the busiest baby areas. If the irritability feels constant or overwhelming, or you’re struggling with your mood in other ways too, mention it to your healthcare provider; postpartum support is there for you, not just the baby.
