Is it normal to be obsessed with fictional characters?
Yes, it’s common to get intensely attached to fictional characters, have a crush on them, or think about them a lot. It’s mainly a concern if it causes distress or regularly gets in the way of your everyday life.
Fictional characters are designed to be compelling, and stories can make you feel close to them. Lots of people get major crushes, daydream about characters, make fan art, or spend ages talking about their favorite worlds. There’s no fixed line between “really into it” and “obsessed”—people use that word pretty casually.
If it’s fun and you’re still sleeping, handling responsibilities, and connecting with people, it’s generally just a strong interest. If thinking about the character feels uncontrollable, upsets you, or is crowding out the rest of your life, that’s a good reason to pause and look at what’s going on—not a reason to feel embarrassed.
