Is it normal to be obsessed with your ex?
It’s common to think about an ex a lot after a breakup, especially when the relationship was important or the ending was messy. If it’s taking over your life or pushing you to cross their boundaries, it’s worth finding ways to step back.
After a breakup, your brain can keep replaying conversations, wondering what they’re doing, or imagining getting back together. That doesn’t mean you’re broken—or that you should be together. Lots of people go through an intense ex-focused phase, and it often eases with time and some distance.
It may help to mute or unfollow them for a while, avoid rereading old messages, and put your attention into people and routines that make you feel like yourself. If “obsessed” means repeatedly contacting them, monitoring them, or ignoring their request for space, take that seriously: the feelings can be understandable, but their boundaries still matter.
