Is it normal to be scared of your dad?
It can happen, especially if your dad is unpredictable or intimidating, but you shouldn’t have to feel unsafe at home. The reason you’re scared matters—and you deserve support if he threatens or hurts you.
Some people feel scared of a parent because they’re strict, get angry suddenly, or make home feel tense. That feeling is real, even if other people don’t see what’s happening. But being threatened, hit, or made to constantly walk on eggshells isn’t something you have to handle alone.
If you’re afraid he might hurt you, or you don’t feel safe going home, tell a trusted adult—such as a relative, teacher, school counselor, or friend’s parent. If you’re in immediate danger, get somewhere safer and contact emergency services. You don’t have to share more than you’re ready to here.
