Is it normal to daydream for hours?
Getting absorbed in daydreams is common, and sometimes hours can slip by. It’s more concerning if it regularly disrupts sleep, responsibilities, or relationships, or feels impossible to control.
Lots of people get deeply absorbed in imagined scenarios, especially when they’re bored, stressed, or relaxing. Sometimes you look up and realize far more time has passed than you thought—brains are excellent at opening a time-wasting tab without asking.
The main question is whether it’s getting in the way of things you care about. If you can set it aside when needed and it isn’t disrupting your sleep, work, school, or relationships, it’s usually just a vivid habit. If it feels hard to control or is regularly taking over your day, it may be worth talking it through with a mental health professional.
