Is it normal to not feel sorry for someone?
Yes, it can be normal not to feel sorry for someone. Your feelings may depend on what happened, your relationship with them, or how much emotional energy you have—but you can still choose to treat them decently.
You won’t feel sympathy for everyone, and you don’t have to manufacture it. Maybe you barely know the person, don’t relate to what they’re going through, feel worn out, or think their choices played a part in the situation. Sometimes the feeling is simply absent; that doesn’t automatically make you a bad person.
What matters more is how you act. You can keep a boundary or decide not to get involved without being cruel. If you find that you rarely care about anyone’s distress and it’s hurting your relationships, that may be worth reflecting on—but one person or one situation isn’t a verdict on your character.
