Is it normal to prefer being alone?
Mostly.Normal for most people
Yes, it’s normal to prefer your own company. It’s only worth a closer look if being alone feels less like a choice and more like loneliness or fear keeping you from connection you want.
Some people recharge by themselves, enjoy the freedom of doing things at their own pace, or simply don’t need a busy social calendar to feel good. You can care about people and still prefer plenty of solo time; it doesn’t automatically mean you’re lonely or antisocial.
The useful question is whether you’re content with the amount of connection you have. If you’d like more company but anxiety, low mood, or something else keeps you isolated, that’s different from happily choosing a quiet night in—and it may help to talk it through with someone you trust.
