Is it normal to pretend you're in a movie?
Yes, it’s normal to imagine you’re in a movie or act out a scene in your head. It’s a playful kind of daydreaming, as long as it isn’t getting in the way of your life.
Lots of people turn ordinary moments into a movie scene—complete with dramatic music, a clever comeback, or an imaginary audience. You might do it for fun, to entertain yourself, or to play out how you wish a situation had gone. Imagination doesn’t switch off just because you’re an adult.
People vary in how much they do it: some keep it entirely in their heads, while others narrate or act things out when they’re alone. It’s generally harmless. If it starts taking over time you need for sleep, work, or relationships, that’s a reason to look at what’s going on—but simply having a cinematic inner life is no big deal.
