Is it normal to regret getting a puppy?
Yes, it’s normal to regret getting a puppy sometimes, especially during the exhausting early weeks. It doesn’t mean you don’t love your puppy or that you made the wrong choice.
A puppy can turn your routine upside down: there’s house-training, interrupted sleep, constant supervision, and a tiny creature chewing things you just bought. Lots of new owners get a wave of “What have I done?” feelings, sometimes called the puppy blues.
As your puppy settles in and you both learn the ropes, those feelings often ease. Make the days more manageable with a predictable routine, breaks when you can get them, and help from someone you trust. If the regret keeps feeling overwhelming, it’s okay to talk honestly with a vet, trainer, or rescue organization about what would be best for both of you—including responsible rehoming if you truly can’t manage.
