Is it normal to smell sweaty down there?
Yes— a mild sweaty or musky smell around your groin is common, especially after exercise, in hot weather, or after wearing tight clothes. A new, strong or unpleasant odor with itching, pain or unusual discharge is worth getting checked.
Your groin has sweat glands, and sweat mixing with the normal bacteria on your skin can create a smell. It’s especially noticeable after a workout or a long day in snug, non-breathable clothes, and it doesn’t mean you’re dirty.
Washing the outside gently and changing out of sweaty clothes can help. Skip scented products or douching around the vagina; they can irritate the area and throw off its natural balance.
If the smell is new and persistent, particularly with itching, pain or unusual discharge, check in with a healthcare professional.
