Is it normal to yell at your partner?
Lots of couples raise their voices during an argument now and then, but yelling shouldn’t be the usual way you handle conflict. If it’s frequent, frightening, or meant to control your partner, that’s worth taking seriously.
People can lose their cool, especially when they’re stressed or feel unheard. One heated moment doesn’t automatically mean your relationship is unhealthy; what matters is whether you can cool down, talk it through, and take responsibility afterward.
If yelling happens often, includes insults or threats, or leaves either of you feeling scared or unable to speak freely, it’s more than ordinary arguing. Agreeing to pause when things get heated—and returning to the conversation when you’re both calmer—can help. You deserve disagreements without intimidation.
