Is it normal to be embarrassed of your partner?
It’s normal to feel occasional secondhand embarrassment when your partner does something awkward. If you’re often ashamed to be seen with them or feel the need to hide who they are, it may point to a deeper issue in the relationship.
Most people have had a “please don’t say that right now” moment with a partner. Maybe they’re being loud, telling an overlong story, or doing something goofy in public. A flash of embarrassment doesn’t mean you don’t love them—or that anything is wrong with either of you.
The bigger question is whether it’s occasional awkwardness or a pattern. If you regularly hide your partner, put them down, or wish they were a different person, it’s worth asking what’s underneath that feeling: are you worried about other people’s opinions, or do you genuinely feel incompatible or resentful? Your partner deserves respect, and you deserve to feel comfortable being with them.
