Is it normal to be scared of your parents?
It can be normal to feel nervous around your parents sometimes, especially during conflict or while growing up. But if you’re afraid they’ll hurt, threaten, or seriously punish you, that’s not something you should have to handle alone.
Lots of people feel anxious about disappointing their parents, getting in trouble, or bringing up a difficult subject. That kind of nervousness can happen even in loving families, though it shouldn’t mean you feel frightened all the time.
There’s a bigger difference between worrying about a parent being upset and fearing they may hurt you, threaten you, or make you feel unsafe at home. If it’s the second one, tell a trusted adult—such as a relative, teacher, counselor, or friend’s parent—and ask for help making things safer. You deserve to feel safe at home.
