Is it normal to feel lonely even when you have friends?
Yes. You can have friends and still feel lonely if you’re missing the kind of closeness, understanding, or company you need.
Having friends doesn’t automatically mean you feel connected to them. You might not see them often, feel able to be yourself around them, or have someone you can talk to about what’s really going on. Even good friendships can leave you lonely sometimes, especially during a stressful or changing stretch of life.
It doesn’t mean you’re ungrateful or that your friendships are fake. Often, a small honest reach-out—asking a friend to spend time together or letting them know you’ve been feeling a bit isolated—can help. And if you’re not sure what kind of connection you’re missing, that’s okay too; loneliness can be a clue to pay attention to, not a verdict on your life.
