Is it normal to hate eating in front of people?
Yes, it’s common to feel self-conscious or uncomfortable eating around other people. If you avoid meals or social plans because of it, that’s worth paying attention to—but you’re not weird for feeling this way.
A lot of people feel watched while they eat, worry about making a mess or eating “wrong,” or simply find the company distracting. It can be especially uncomfortable around people you don’t know well, or if you’ve been teased or judged about food before.
An occasional dislike is pretty ordinary; hating it enough to skip meals or avoid seeing people is a bigger burden than you need to just put up with. You could start with meals around someone you trust and see whether that feels easier. There’s no shame in taking your discomfort seriously.
