Is it normal to pretend to have conversations with people?

Yep.Totally normal

Yes, it’s normal to imagine or rehearse conversations with other people. Lots of people do it to sort through feelings, practice what they want to say, or just entertain themselves.

Pretend conversations are a pretty ordinary kind of inner life. You might replay something that happened, imagine how a future conversation could go, or give an imaginary audience the full version of a story. Sometimes you might even say the words out loud when you’re alone—that’s not automatically strange either.

It’s generally only worth a closer look if the conversations feel outside your control, cause you significant distress, or make it hard to tell imagination from what’s actually happening. Otherwise, your brain is just running a little dialogue practice.
