Is it normal to struggle at university?
Yes, struggling at university is common, especially while you’re adjusting to new workloads, expectations, or living situations. It doesn’t mean you’re not cut out for it; asking for support can make things more manageable.
University can be a big shift: the workload may be heavier, the structure looser, and you’re often expected to figure out a lot on your own. Plenty of students feel behind, overwhelmed, or unsure whether everyone else has it together. (Spoiler: many of them are just better at looking calm.)
Struggling doesn’t mean you don’t belong there. Try breaking work into smaller steps and talking to a professor, academic adviser, tutor, or someone you trust. If the problem is more about loneliness, money, or stress than classes, student support services may be able to help with that too.
