Tipping a photographer is appreciated but usually isn’t expected, especially if they own their business or have already included service charges in the price. You can tip for exceptional service, but a thank-you note or referral is also a thoughtful gesture.
It depends on the photographer and the kind of job. For weddings or other long events, some clients tip when the photographer has gone above and beyond; for a short portrait session, tipping is less common. Many photographers set their own rates, so you’re not expected to add a tip automatically.
If you do want to tip, check whether a service charge is already included and feel free to ask whether tips are accepted. A sincere thank-you, good review, or referral is also very welcome.
