Is it normal to be obsessed with your daughter?
Being deeply attached to your daughter and thinking about her a lot can be normal. It’s worth paying attention if “obsessed” means you can’t respect her privacy, choices, or need for independence.
Parents can love their kids fiercely and worry about them constantly, especially when they’re young or going through a big change. The word “obsessed” can also mean different things, though: warm and involved is one thing; feeling possessive, monitoring her constantly, or expecting her to meet your emotional needs is another.
A useful check is whether your attention feels caring to her, too. As she grows, giving her privacy and room to make age-appropriate choices is part of loving her well. If you feel unable to ease up even when it’s upsetting you or her, talking it through with a therapist or trusted counselor could help.
