Is it normal to dislike people as you get older?
Yes, it’s pretty normal to become less patient with people or more selective about who you spend time with as you get older. That doesn’t necessarily mean you dislike everyone; you may just have less interest in putting up with behavior you once let slide.
A lot of people get clearer about their boundaries and what they enjoy, and less willing to make small talk, tolerate drama, or say yes out of obligation. It can feel like you dislike people more when you’re really just choosier about company—and more protective of your time and energy.
It’s also fine if your social circle gets smaller. The thing to notice is whether you still have people you enjoy and feel connected to, or whether you’ve become unhappy and isolated. You don’t have to love people in general to care about a few of them deeply.
