Is it normal to not enjoy motherhood?
Yes. You can love your child and still dislike parts—or even much—of motherhood; it can be exhausting, repetitive, and far from what you expected.
Motherhood isn’t a nonstop glow of gratitude. The lack of sleep, constant responsibility, loss of freedom, and pressure to feel fulfilled can make it hard to enjoy. Plenty of mothers have moments—or stretches—when they wish they could step out of the role for a while.
That doesn’t make you a bad parent, and it doesn’t tell you how much you love your child. People feel differently about it, and you don’t have to pretend it’s wonderful just because you’re grateful for your kid.
If the feeling is persistent and comes with hopelessness, numbness, intense anxiety, or trouble getting through daily life, tell someone you trust and consider talking with a healthcare professional; you deserve support, not judgment.
