Is it normal to think about violence?
Depends.It depends
It’s normal to have an occasional violent thought, and a thought by itself doesn’t mean you want to act on it. If the thoughts feel hard to control or you’re worried you might hurt someone, take that seriously and reach out for support.
Lots of people have fleeting violent thoughts when they’re angry, stressed, or imagining a dramatic situation. Sometimes they’re unwanted and upsetting; having one doesn’t make you a bad person or mean you’ll act on it.
What matters is how the thoughts feel and what you do with them. If they’re frequent, distressing, or starting to feel like urges—or you have a plan or fear you may act—talk to someone you trust or a mental health professional. If someone may be in immediate danger, get urgent help now.
