Is it normal to not want to play with your toddler?
Yes—lots of parents don’t enjoy playing with their toddler all the time. It doesn’t mean you don’t love your child; toddler play can be repetitive, exhausting, or just not your thing.
You don’t have to love pretend tea parties or playing the same game for the hundredth time to be a good parent. Some people find toddler play genuinely fun; others connect more through walks, books, meals, or simply being nearby while their child plays. Both count as time together.
If you want to join in, even a few minutes of letting your toddler choose the activity can be plenty. And if not wanting to play is part of a bigger, lasting feeling of numbness or disconnection, consider talking it through with someone you trust or a health professional—you deserve support, too.
